She is seen here in her Sunday best.”

‘When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.’ - A D Williams I wanted to experiment with different mediums and was inspired by wire sculpting, so over a period of time I developed a system of working with fine gauge florists binding wire in order to create images which also combined my love of drawing.
I generally use black/grey binding wire and depending on the atmospheric conditions surrounding the piece then some parts of the wire take on a more 'sepia' tone or patina as the wire oxidises. Each completed piece is finally mounted on a bare white canvas and framed in black.
I am drawn to nature/animals and people as subject matter and enjoy the juxtaposition of organic subject material captured using an industrial man-made material. I am inspired by the amazing work and dedication of wildlife conservationists around the world and charities caring for and protecting animals. With each of my wire art pieces, I strive to create an emotional connection between the viewer and the subject which encourages the viewer to see 'a living being', 'a friend' and to 'feel their soul'.

Sculpture and 3D Prize - Helen MacRitchie
Helen MacRitchie is a textile artist, and was our final winner of the evening. Helen received the 3D award with “Revealing Pathways” a 3D textile design. Helen’s concentration upon the detail found in nature and the landscape recreating the impressions and feelings these evoke through selected imagery and contemporary abstract representation. Texture, colour and visual design are significant to the interaction with her audience. You can view Helen’s submission at “Creates” until 8th February.
Over the last 3 decades I have relocated my home and my life several times around the world. I have been challenged during those years and while I have often felt outside of my comfort zone, I acknowledge I am ultimately richer from the experience. I still bear a sense of dislocation from home; I remain in transit; but I welcome with anticipation what there is yet to be revealed. This work expresses my experiences into the unknown. Amidst an expanse of bland cobble stones there are discoveries of colour and excitement, of adventure, friendships and treasured memories. From the mundane and predictable the unexpected is revealed, emerging to intrigue and challenge, rewarding us with a memorable pocket of beauty. The journey itself is one of colour, directed by the environment; the two inextricably wrapped together.
