‘When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.’ - A D Williams
Sadie wanted to experiment with different mediums and she was inspired by wire sculpting, so over some time, she developed a system of working with fine-gauge florists binding wire in order to create images which also combined her love of drawing.
Sadie generally uses black/grey binding wire and depending on the atmospheric conditions surrounding the piece, then some parts of the wire take on a more 'sepia' tone or patina as the wire oxidises. Each completed piece is finally mounted on a bare white canvas and framed in black.
Sadie is drawn to nature/animals and people as subject matter and enjoys the juxtaposition of organic subject material captured using an industrial man-made material. She is inspired by the amazing work and dedication of wildlife conservationists around the world and charities caring for and protecting animals. With each of her wire art pieces, she strives to create an emotional connection between the viewer and the subject which encourages the viewer to see 'a living being', 'a friend' and to 'feel their soul'.
