The Second Wave
The Second Wave
Acrylic on canvas
60 x 70cm framed
A heaving wave projects defiantly in a swirling, ocean., whipped into a wind blown frenzy and energised in preparation to crash in a ferocity of noise and power. Painted during 'Lockdown' in 2020, it presents a pictorial metaphor for impending, and indiscriminate onslaught. "The Second Wave' communicates the intense drama - the terrifying and unstoppable power of a sweeping force forming a powerful presence as it prepares to cascade inland with pounding fury.

Colin Davies
Colin John Davies is a full-time, professional artist based in South Wales. He spent thirty two years in education, finally retiring in 2019 and trading life as a headteacher to fulfil a lifelong ambition. Colin uses mainly oil and acrylic paints. His expressive style is created with the generous application of paint using a swift, tumultuous flow of a palette knife followed with more detailed brushwork application. Inspired by the beautiful coastline and mountains of Wales, much of his recent work depicts the power and vitality of the ocean. “I love watching the sea crashing in, whipped into a wind blown frenzy. I love to listen to the waves crash on the rocks below in a ferocity of noise and power. I strive to paint the noise and communicate the drama of the terrifying and unstoppable force that is the ocean.” His atmospheric representation of the drama and rugged beauty of Wales, particularly that of the Gower coastline, is regularly exhibited and increasingly collected across the UK and internationally.
