30x30cm
hand carved leather, acrylic paint
This leather panel is hand carved with lino cutting tools and then painted using acrylic paints. This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of feelings of isolation and disconnection.

Communicating through mark-making is at the core of my practice. I am constantly working towards a clarified, distinctive visual language through experimentation with marks, composition and colour, playing with form, layering and scale. Through the carving and painting of leathers I create works that speak to bigger issues on a very personal and intimate level. By remaining true to these narratives I create an authentic and unique voice that can be seen in the themes of the work I am creating. In my ‘Marking Time’ collections 2019 and 2020 I explored 2 and 3D forms that communicated the emotions relating to, and stories about, my father, his Alzheimer’s and me. Linked themes include memory loss, fragmentation, loss of identity and isolation.
